| Preparing your dossier does not
need to be a long headache, we will help you expedite the preparation
process with checklists, resources and all required information
for your chosen country to guide you through in the shortest
time possible.
Your dossier must
include:
a home study with fingerprints,
background checks, income verification, documents must be notarized.
carry your state seal, then be authenticated by a Guatemalan
consolate.. I-600, I-171H, G-28 and additional forms specific
to the Guatemalan adoption process are included.
Home Study Guidelines
The summary home study should be typed on
agency letterhead
Information on the family:
- Name, address, telephone number, email address
- Father’s name, birth date, place of birth, birth certificate
number, health, extended family members, educational history,
employment etc.
- Mother’s name, birth date, place of birth, birth certificate
number, health, extended family members, educational history,
employment etc.
- Children’s names, birth dates places of birth, health,
education, and whether they are adopted or biological.
- Include information on any other people who live in the home.
Give information on the following:
- Marriage: date, place, and marriage certificate number. Discuss
the marriage relationship.
- References: number of references and comments from some of
the references.
- Resources in the community: types of educational resources,
recreational resources, social resources, medical resources
etc.
-Type of child/ren desired to adopt: age, sex, race, etc.
-The country parents wish to adopt from
Summary, this MUST include the following statements:
1. The adoptive parents have never had a court-appointed guardian.
2. The adoptive parents have never had their parental rights
terminated in the court of law.
3. Minor children are the first to inherit if both parents die
at the same time.
4. Adopted children have the same inheritance rights as biological
children.
5. The adoptive parent/s will do post placement reports as required
by the foreign country, the US, their state of residence and
NHIA.
6. Contacts made with the family by which this report was generated
dates of home visits and phone conversations.
7. Will accept minor correctable special needs
8. Verification of income
The third page should be a biography of one-half
page on each parent.
The fourth page should be titled “Report
of Living Conditions” and should include a description
of the home, whether the home is rented or owned, the number
of rooms, bathrooms, bedrooms, garage, and a description of
the surroundings and community. Discuss the child/rens sleeping
arrangements and how the child will go to school (walk or bus).
It should include whether the family has a vacation home and
its value. It should also include the monthly income and budget,
with a statement that this family can comfortably afford to
raise this child/ren. It should state that health insurance
is available for the child. It should say the family is seeking
to adopt child/ren as healthy as possible or state handicaps
they will accept.
The home study should end with the agency recommendation and
approval of the family and the reasons for this approval. This
approval should state that the family passed all criminal and
child abuse clearances. This approval should include the number
of children and age of children the family is qualified to adopt,
and from what country.

A notarized copy of the home study agency license
and a notarized copy of the social worker’s license should
be attached to the signed and notarized home study.
